Background
September 1987.
So called Tanker War resulting from Iran-Iraq War is in full swing with attacks occurring almost daily by gunboats, land-based anti-ship missiles and combat aircraft. Both sides of the conflict want to prevent each other's profitable oil trade with the rest of the world. Recently crude oil tanker 'Gerhard Dengler' with it's partially West-German crew was captured by Iranian Revolutionary Guardsmen after a gunboat attack. President Reagan and his cabinet have authorized establishment of USMC base at Tunb El-Kubra (Malden) with the approval of United Arab Emirates to deter any further attacks on shipping. After failure of negotiations for the release of West-German seamen held hostage, German chancellor Helmut Kohl in accordance with Reagan administration has secretly sent detachment of Grentzschutzgruppe-9 operators to newly-established USMC base at Tunb El-Kubra. Along with the elements of USMC 66th Engineer Company tasked with base-building work, US Navy SEAL team has been deployed to the island to train with GSG-9 operators for a possible joint hostage rescue mission.

Needless to say, after hearing of US troop deployments and base building in the Persian Gulf, Warsaw Pact countries and Iran are outraged and have expressed fierce objections...

Briefing - M01
Camp Beauregard is in state of full alert. A search party consisting reinforced squad from 2nd platoon/66th Logistics company, SEAL and GSG-9 team are being briefed for a sweep mission to find the saboteurs of USMC and West-German vehicles parked in the base. The populace in Tunb El-Kubra (Malden) is mainly UAE citizens, but some people of Iranian descent may host pro-Iranian revolutionary sympathies. It is suspected that last night that these pro-Iranian insurgents infiltrated Camp Beuaregard and sabotaged various USMC and West-German wheeled vehicles.

Search party consisting of USMC, SEAL and GSG-9 teams must sweep the perimeter around the base and find evidence or the perpetrators of last night's sabotage which rendered all vehicles within the camp unserviceable. SEALs and GSG-9 are briefed by team leaders separately at the barracks building. Company CO Captain Fuller will brief USMC squad at the front yard.

SITUATION & ROE
September 8 1987 15:15.
A task force centered around from 5th Marine Expeditionary Force aboard USS Tarawa has been deployed to Tunb-El Kubra (Malden) last night to deter any further Iranian attacks. Apparently, Iran has been reluctant to send any reinforcements to the islands while claiming the previously seized territory to be 'integral part of Iranian homeland'. However, behind the scenenes Pentagon has received intel from Iranian military communications indicating that the entire operation to capture the islands was initiated by fanatical extremist faction within the Iranian military without approval from Teheran. Sources claim a regimental-sized and few air force units units loyal to General Bayat are the forces behind the invasion. President Reagan has been informed of these developments and secret negotiations are now underway with Tehran to defuse the conflict while both sides are keeping up militaristic rhetoric in public to avoid appearing weak and hesitant.

Detachment (now named Combat Team 'K') consisting of II platoon/66th Marine Engineer Company, US Navy SEALs and GSG-9 operators were instrumental in defeating Iranian invasion across the strait. In the southern part of the main island Iranians managed to seize a bridgehead, but further advance was stopped by the elements of recently arrived US 5th Marine Expeditionary Force. Combat Team 'K' has since spent a few days recuperating, but now, impressed by the performance and fighting spirit of the unit, a special mission has been assigned by US Navy Persian Gulf Commander-in-Chief.
Small, but strategically important islands of Pita, Shis Tawook and Kofta along with oil platforms of Al-Maldajah were captured during initial Iranian invasion and are held by Revolutionary Guard commands. There is also reliable intel that some of the crewmen from captured German oil tanker 'Gerhard Dengler' are being held hostage in the oil platforms. It is imperative that these islands are liberated and hostages are freed in a surprise daylight seaborne raid before further major combat maneuvers take place in the south.

OBJECTIVE 1
Combat Team 'K' (you) is currently being briefed by Captain Fuller (USMC) and Major Beck (DE). The team must clear the islands of Pita, Shis Tawook and Kofta of enemy forces. Expect relatively light, but determined resistance.

OBJECTIVE 2
Al-Maldajah oil platform is suspected to house German merchant seaman, being held hostage by Iranian Revolutionary Guard commandos in the towers. Liberate the hostages and neutralize the enemy combatants.

ROE
Weapons free, but watch out for civilians held in oil platforms.

EQUIPMENT
Normal personal weapons. M84 stun grenades available in the ammo box. 4 x RHIB boats and 1 x light assault boat.
